Here comes the sun (doo doo doo doo)
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right
Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right

I have been singing this song for the past couple of weeks. No, I am not having any kind of nostalgia moment about The Beatles. I am celebrating coming through a long and difficult winter season.
My elderly partner became very ill after contracting Strand A Flu. He spent four days in the hospital and the remaining winter months and part of spring recovering. I was hurled into the role of caregiver. A position that I was not prepared to fill. It was a tremendous amount of work that had to be done to help him recover.
Midway through my partner’s recovery, my mom had to be admitted to the hospital. She hit the respiratory trifecta, Strep, Strand A Flu, and Pneumonia all at the same time. The irony of her situation is the fact that she took the flu shot for the first time.
I spent all of my waking hours providing care for the three of us. There was no way that I could neglect my needs. This was my first winter with RA. My body ached every time that I was exposed to the cold winds.
All of my writing plans and coursework had to be put on hold. My days were filled with meeting everyone’s needs. It was exhausting for me. I had the support and help of family members and friends, which I am truly grateful for, but I was/am the primary caregiver in my household as well as long distance.
I am happy to report that we made it through. My elders are still working on feeling better. I did not realize that having the flu at that phase of life could be so devastating on the body. They are moving about and feeling better. I have become a better self-care manager through this ordeal.
It’s finally warm and sunny in my hometown. I am ready to return back to writing, and I say that it’s all right!
